Yes you heard me! While I am a huge advocate of clean beauty, beauty is also about making sure that you are taking care of your mind and body too. It’s a new year, and we typically like to take note of what experiences, goals and challenges we faced the previous year and how we can improve in the new year. It’s why we hear the term “New Year, New You”
We start to take inventory of the things we want to improve upon, in hopes that we will stick to it. In hopes that we will switch all of our products to clean in a month, or lose 20 pounds in a week. We set ourselves up with unrealistic goals and expectations, rather than setting ourselves up with realistic intentions.
Here are five intentions that are a great start for 2020:
1. Let go of something unhealthy
Do you have anxiety or feel upset when you are around someone? Or maybe you have a bad habit of getting lost in social media for hours a day. Think about something or someone that isn’t contributing positively to your health and well-being. Try to cut back on time spent or let it go all together. You will start to feel lighter and more at peace with your mind.
2. Go for a walk
Exercise is great for you! Even getting out for a walk has health benefits including reducing stress and improving the quality of your sleep. According to the Cleveland Clinic, it also improves skin tone! They recommend walking at least 10,000 steps per day.
3. Drink more water
Getting enough water in your diet is important for your body to function well and be healthy. This includes your skin! Fluids deliver nutrients to your skin, and approximately 20% of our water intake comes from the food we ingest. Alcohol and coffee can cause the body to get rid of fluids quicker, so it is important to stay hydrated if you do consume these. Good hydration will give you good energy levels and keep the body functioning properly! Keep drinking that water.
4. Switch one product to clean to start
Switching your products to clean in 2020 is a great goal, and if you are new, start small!
When is the last time you switched out your mascara? What about your liquid eyeliner? These two products should be replaced every three months according to the FDA to avoid bacteria build up and eye infections.
5. Feel grateful and set goals
Sometimes I have to stop and remind myself what I am grateful for, and be proud and thankful for ME and my life. I like to remind myself why I am special and worthy of love and kindness, and I jot down my to do list and goals for the day to stay on track.
What realistic intentions are you going to set for yourself in 2020?
